The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Red River and Manitoba Railroad Company.

The company was incorporated in 1877 and built a rail line from Breckenridge north to Barnesville (40 miles). In 1879 the line and all other company properties were sold to GN's predecessor, the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Manitoba Railway. The latter company pulled up its track in 1890.
